In 1943, a group of wealthy Polish Jews falls into the hands of the Nazis, who offer them a chance of rescue in exchange for enormous sums of money. The young Katerina Horovitzova becomes part of this deceitful and cynical “game,” in which her hope for freedom quickly turns into a series of cruel choices. This gripping drama, based on a novella by Arnošt Lustig, reveals the mechanisms of manipulation and the loss of illusions.
