Zlín Film Pioneers: Baťa Advertising as Storytelling – What Do Today’s Advertisers Think?

Scenárista a režisér. Patří k nejuznávanějším režisérům reklamní tvorby. Vystudoval AVU, obor grafika, malba, konceptuální umění a nová média. V letech 1993–1995 pracoval jako filmový architekt. V roce 1995 spoluzaložil Dawson Production. V tomto období pracoval na multimediálních projektech, natočil krátký film Hotel, pro hudební televize (vytvořil znělky pro hudební televizní show Point, BigBeat a pro MTV). Od roku 1999 režíruje reklamní zakázky a videoklipy, jichž natočil několik desítek. Získal mnohá ocenění na tuzemských a mezinárodních reklamních festivalech (např: Film festival Impact, Utrecht, 14th Tokyo video festival, Epica, Golden award of Montreaux, AME awards, Cresta awards, NY adverising festivals, Effie, The Golden Drum, Gunn report, Grammy a další). Je spoluautorem scénáře k filmu Šeptej (2006). Od roku 1999 režíruje reklamy a videoklipy, jichž do dnešní doby natočil více než osmdesát. V celovečerním filmu debutoval velmi výrazným snímkem 3 sezóny v pekle (2010). Jeho druhý film Wilsonov (2015) v produkci Filmbrigade byl nominovaný na 4. České lvy. V roce 2018 režíroval šest z osmi epizod TV seriálu Profesor T., který byl nominován na Českého lva v kategorii Nejlepší dramatický televizní seriál.

Baťa advertising stood at the very origins of Zlín’s film tradition. It was the need to create modern, inventive, and visually striking advertising films that led, as early as the 1930s, to the establishment of the Zlín film studios, which later became one of the most important centers of Czech cinematography. Baťa advertising was not just about promoting a product—it brought storytelling, humor, emotion, and a level of craftsmanship that was ahead of its time. The discussion will explore how advertising became a creative medium and whether its legacy remains inspiring for contemporary creators. The guest will be director Tomáš Mašín.
