Jiří Strach (born 29 September 1973 in Prague) is a Czech film director, actor, and educator. He directed the film Angel of the Lord (2005), which became the most-watched film of 2006 after its television premiere. As an actor, he is best known for the film Lotrando and Zubejda, in which he portrayed the character of young Lotrando. Since his student years, he has focused primarily on directing, mainly for television. His first feature-length fiction film released in cinemas was the Christmas fairy tale Angel of the Lord (2005), which became the most-watched film of 2006 upon its television premiere. His second film, Wrinkles of Love (2012), marked the return of the iconic acting duo Jiřina Bohdalová and Radoslav Brzobohatý. In 2016, he directed the highly successful sequel Angel of the Lord 2. From 1999 to 2002, he worked as an assistant lecturer at the Department of Directing at FAMU (the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague). Since 2005, he has been a lecturer at the Department of Film Production at the Miroslav Ondříček Film Academy in Písek. In 2007, he received the Elsa Award from the Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA) for directing the drama Operation Silver A (2007), and a year later for the television film BrainStorm (2008). At the Prix Europa 2014 competition in Berlin, his film Wisdom Teeth won in the TV Fiction category and received the award for Best European TV Drama. In the late 1980s, the lives of a young mother with an intellectual disability, Lilian, and her daughter Malvína are suddenly turned upside down. After losing their only support, they are forced to set out in search of safety. The story unfolds across two timelines through the eyes of young teenaged Malvína, blending childlike imagination with a search to understand the past, to forgive, and to accept that one is never truly alone.
