Eight-year-old Violette has a stubborn nature – and a new home. After her parents’ death, she must live with her uncle Régis, a caretaker at the Palace of Versailles. He is a grumpy loner; she is a defiant girl who refuses to speak to him and runs away at every chance. It seems these two will struggle to find common ground. Yet behind the scenes of Louis XIV’s opulent palace, a fragile bond begins to grow between them. Two lonely people learn to listen to each other and come to terms with the loss that brought them together. This warm animated film, full of gentle humor, is a story about finding closeness and a new home where we least expect it. Developed from a successful short film and a popular book series, it sensitively captures a child’s perspective on loss, understanding, and hope.
