Does a film need conflict? And how do you capture a story in which "nothing happens," yet everything is happening? In his masterclass, Repka explores his directorial approach, focusing on subtle, seemingly mundane moments and fleeting everyday life. Drawing on his debut From March to May, he will discuss the hurdles of low-budget filmmaking, how he dealt with rejection and creative doubts, and reveal his working methods through behind-the-scenes examples. He’ll also share practical insights – things he wishes he’d known before diving into his first feature.
Martin Pavol Repka, director and screenwriter, graduate of film directing from FAMU in Prague. His work, from student shorts like Into the Distance by Boat (2021) and Dad (2022) to his debut feature From March to May (2024), explores themes of family and friendship. The film won awards at KVIFF, Finále Plzeň, and was named Discovery of the Year by Czech Film Critic
