Jindřich Polák (1925–2003) byl scenárista a režisér. Klasik žánru českého sci-fi i dětského filmu. Debutoval celovečerním westernem Smrt v sedle (1958), jeho další tvorba zahrnuje sci-fi Ikarie XB 1 (1963), válečné drama Nebeští jezdci (1968) či krimi Smrt stopařek (1979). U dětských diváků získal přízeň především TV seriály a filmy Pan Tau (1969–1978), Návštěvníci (1983), Lucie, postrach ulice (1980, 1984), ...a zase ta Lucie! (1984) nebo Chobotnice z II. patra (1986).

Set in England during World War II, Riders in the Sky follows RAF bomber crews fighting German forces. The Wellington bomber crew includes Czech captain Pavel, English co-pilot Frank, English navigator George, Canadian radio operator Tommy, and Czech gunners Student and Prcek. Their dramatic missions are portrayed with British-style realism – a sober, human story of ordinary heroes who neither seek glory nor expect their nation’s gratitude, yet fight bravely in the skies.
