In the near future, Tokyo faces the threat of a massive earthquake – but it’s not just the ground that’s shaking. At one high school, a group of teens is dealing with first love, mistakes, and friendships under pressure. After a harmless prank on the principal, the school installs cameras and a system that gives students penalty points for breaking rules. Suddenly, their everyday lives are monitored – and resistance starts to grow. Set in a changing Japan, where fear and control shape society, Happyend follows students from diverse backgrounds as they begin to question authority, challenge unfair systems, and figure out who they want to be. In her debut film, director Neo Sora mixes humor, heart, and real emotion to explore growing up in a world full of pressure. Premiered at the Venice Film Festival, this story of courage and connection speaks to anyone finding their voice in uncertain times.
