In 2015, three schoolgirls from London made headlines when they left for Syria. Many quickly judged them, but few asked why they went. This inspired director Nadia Fall to create a fictional story exploring how some teens can feel so invisible and unwanted that they search for meaning in dangerous places. Brides follows Doe and Munu, two teenage girls who feel abandoned in their own country. As they search for belonging, their journey leads them all the way to the Syrian border. The film takes a sensitive look at how frustration, isolation, and a longing to matter can lead young people down risky paths. With powerful storytelling and realistic settings, Brides opens up conversations about identity, belonging, and the complex feelings many young people face today. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and leaves a lasting impression.
