Santino (11) is a child of the circus, raised in a traveling caravan with his family and animals. For him, home isn’t a place – it’s people: his parents, siblings, and a wide circle of relatives. His best friend is his great-grandfather Ehe, one of Europe’s last great circus ringmasters. Ehe is a masterful storyteller, recounting tales of friendship with an elephant named Sahib, his first clown act, and the freedom that outweighs the hardships of nomadic life. On Santino’s 11th birthday, Ehe asks, “And what will you do in the ring one day?” Because Santino, too, must find his own place under the big top. But how does one discover such a calling? Blending road movie with fairy tale magic, stylized animation, and heartfelt moments, this tender documentary offers a rare glimpse into the lives of Germany’s last nomads. At its heart, it’s a warm celebration of family, identity, and the true meaning of belonging.
