Lakshmipriya Devi always wanted to tell stories, but chose never to direct one if the story did not come from within. That story organically emerged while seeking closure from an uncomfortable part of her childhood, in Manipur - a place called ‘home’, in the north eastern corner of India.
A graduate in Economics Honours and a post graduate in Mass Communications, she has drawn from her experience as a First Assistant Director in landmark Indian productions such as Luck by Chance, Talaash, PK, A Suitable Boy etc. to make her directorial debut with ‘Boong’.
‘Boong’ is her bitter-sweet memory of her home - Manipur.
In the green valley of Manipur, little Boong lives with his strong mother, his best friend Raju, and memories of a distant father who left to find work. To give his mother Mandakini a special gift, Boong and Raju embark on a dangerous journey across borders and divides, armed only with a photo and the belief that music can bring his father home. In her directorial debut, Lakshmipriya Devi captures the power of childhood friendship and resilience amid unrest.
