Carlos Matienzo Serment was born in 1986 in San Luis Potosi, and graduated from the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí in 2009. In 2013, he founded Strobe Films and began his career as a Director, Producer and Screenwriter for commercials and digital content. In 2016, he started directing short films, finding his passion in thriller, horror, and environmental stories. Most of his projects have been shown at national and international festivals. In 2017, he won the 17th edition of the National Short Film Project Competition for Regions of the Mexican Film Institute with the project "Escondidas'' for San Luis Potosi, which was released in 2019 at FICM, FERATUM, FENS and FICSLP. The project was submitted to the 2019 Ariel Awards. In 2019, he was an invited jury for the same regional competition.
In 2018, he began a Screenwriting Specialization at the Facultad de Cine, and terror genre workshops at Entre Lineas. In 2019, his first feature film script "Tierra Blanca" - "Nahualli" was selected as an Official Unpublished Script at the International New Latin American Film Festival in Havana. In 2019, his short film on clean energy "El 450" won First Place for Fiction at the ECOFILM festival. In 2020, he won the 1st Fantastic Rally of FERATUM with the short film "Tekenchu", obtaining the Audience Award. As of December 2022, the project has received 81 Official National and International Selections and 16 awards. The project was entered in the 2022 Ariel Awards and named as the only short film on the list of "Most Awarded Projects of 2021" according to the IMCINE 2021-2022 statistical yearbook.
In 2022, he won the “Huellas verdes” (Green Footprint) Short Film Competition, organized by the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica and the Ministry of Culture, with the project "Bajudh". Carlos is currently developing his first feature film, "La Bestia," which he hopes to film in San Luis Potosi, using the green practices he learned in the Green Footprint competition in 2022.
