At Brtník Castle's ruins dwell two ghosts: knight Vilém and his daughter Leontýnka. A group of children befriend them and unite to protect the castle from a greedy vegetable seller aiming to convert the damp cellars into a mushroom farm. Trusted by village leaders, the children gain permission to restore the ruins, aided by Vilém's magic. Leontýnka, drawn to the real world, discloses to a boy how to break her eternal enchantment and restore her humanity.
