Princess Agnès, of a fairy-tale French castle, wakes to an ominous roar of a crowd beneath her windows. Amidst turmoil, she flees to distant Bohemia for safety, guided by her chambermaid. There, a countess’s son falls in love with Agnes and the distrustful countess herself tests Angnes’s noble lineage by making her sleep on a pea. Will she pass this test and win over the countess, or succumb to exhaustion and slumber?
